Summery:
Amanda, 37 year old gorilla from Woodland Park Zoo, gave a birth to a baby gorilla in Saturday at about 3-30 a.m. According to the veterinarian of animal health Dr. Ochsenreiter, the first 72 hours of gorilla’s life is the most critical, thus the newborn gorilla remains under 24- hour observation. The baby is doing well, and her mother Amanda is taking care of her. This baby is the 12th successfully born gorilla and third conceived by the 37-year-old mother and the 28-year-old father in the Woodland Park Zoo.According to this article, the baby is very important because of its genetic diversity. Its mother Amanda was born in the wild, and father has only two other relatives outside of Woodland Park Zoo. Those factors make the baby gorilla's genes particularly valuable to the zoo population in North America.
Personal Response:
It’s very good that the number of gorillas is increasing. I think, we need to take care of them in order to save them, because there are a lot of hunters who kill gorillas to sell them for a big amount of money. If it will continue longer, we will never see this kind of animal again. We should give gorillas better conditions to live, so they could live longer and make more kids.

The novel “ Heartbeat” by Danielle Steel
Summary: Bill Thigpen who obsessed with his work didn’t realize that his marriage was falling apart until it was too late. His wife, Leslie, left him with their two boys while Bill wanted to move to California to pursue his career. Seven years have past since Bill and Leslie got divorced. Over the years, he has become one of the most successful television producer in California.
Meanwhile, Adrian Townsend is married to Steven. Steven has a horrible personality which Adrian’s parents just hate about him. But Adrian does everything for him to make him happy.
Late at night, Bill decided to go to grocery store to get some food.
He accidently ran into Adrian, who was buying food for Steven, who was supposed to arrive from another state this night. While Adrian was picking up her stuff from the floor, Bill noticed her big green eyes, her lovely hair, and attractive smile which Bill would never ever forget. He literally felt himself like a seven years old boy. But later he noticed the ring which meant she was married.
Personal Response : I am by no means addicted to Romance novels, so I decided to choose something from Danielle Steel’s books. As far as I know, there are a lot of movies that are based on Danielle Steel’s novels. I have seen some of them like “Message from Nam”, “Secrets”, etc…
I really enjoyed them. I think reading her books are more interesting than watching the movies which were based on her novels.
What I love in this novel is that it’s really easy to read and understand. It's always nice to read a story where you can easily understand what is going on, by only reading through the sentence once. I have read 55 pages. Since it’s really easy to read this book, I understood 90%-100% of it.

People turn rags to riches
Summery:
Denise Henrikson from West Seattle organized swap event where people could create something new from their old clothes.
The clothing swap event at the Ballard branch of the Seattle Public Library and Ballard Commons Park attracted up to 300 people over two days as part of the fourth annual Sustainable Ballard festival
According to Henrikson, earlier this year, Denise did the same event. That swap was more successful because students from Ballard High School helped her a lot by organizing a clothing drive and helping to sort the clothes.
Some participants of this event brought their own clothes, from which later they made a new clothes.
Several of people, who participated in this event, made clownish clothes. For example: Kylee Peterson who made a summer skirt from window valance and brown skirt. But there were other people like Ava Schmidt who made the leopard-print purse and Rachel Pittman, who made the eye- catching shirt which turned out really good as she wanted it to be.
The article says, in about 40 cities have been held similar swap events since 2005. Clothes left over from Sunday’s event will be given to the Ballard Bank community closet.

In my opinion, this idea of using old things to make new things is very useful for people. First of all, you might save your money by making something that you needed ,from your old things that were lying around your house for ages. Secondly, doesn’t it feel good when you are trying to make something new with your own hands, even though you will never use it? And the last, you might open a new talent that you’ve never knew about, for example, after you created something, you will be surprised of how creative you are!
I know how it feels because, last year when I was in “Girls Scout”, we did the same event. I made the skirt from my old jeans which turned out amazing! I’ve never thought that I can make with my own hands such a beautiful skirt. I was proud of myself!
Over all, it’s always good to try doing something new.
